Concerned Women for America Survey on Gambling Pledge

The Concerned Women for America, West Virginia Chapter Legislative Liaison, mailed a survey to candidates for the House of Delegates and the State Senate. The following responded to the survey asking candidates to pledge to oppose the expansion of gambling.

Gambling is touted as the ticket out of financial woes for the state, but gambling preys upon the young, less educated and senior population. It preys upon the desperation of the poor by peddling false hope. Given the overwhelming evidence of the harms of gambling to individuals and families, our state leaders must not expand this industry. Behind each on of those who are addicted to gambling is a real face, a real family, a real story. Funding education and health care should not come from this destructive activity.

Received by April 18,2000, those who signed the Pledge To Oppose Gambling Are:

Senator Donna J. Boley R-3rd District St. Marys Pleasants County
